This is my latest 3d maquette I sculpted last week in ZBrush. This is part of my “1 concept/week” exercise I am doing along with Lyle Moore; We’re having a blast!

This is an orc I wanted to fit in the Warcraft universe. The theme for the week was “Chieftain’s son, master of the blood relic”

Renders of another concept I created 2 weeks ago.

This is my take on the almighty Tarrasque from the D&D world. Since the creature doesn’t fly, it has heavy back protection. I gave it a more demonic and aggressive look (being the tool of ultimate destruction and all).

I designed a version of the Leviathan based on religions viewpoint; trying to mix features of demons and deep sea creatures together. Example: the tentacles spread like demon wings.
When it swims, the tentacles wrap around the body like a cocoon and it swims like a shark.

Sculpted in ZBrush, textured and composed in Photoshop.

150 misc portrait sketches

Just wrapped up an exercise I wanted to do for a while.

I gave myself 6 days to sketch 150 misc portraits, 10 minutes each, on 11×14. I gathered references with some specific facial expressions that I wanted to capture. Some sublte, and some more expressive.

Tried to stay loose and focus on the expression more than likeness.

It was intensive, especially having to do that at night after work, but it was a great exercise.

Looking forward to do it again.

Ethos Art Event

I had the opportunity to participate in a live art event taking place at Overflow Coffee Bar here in Chicago. The event was organized by BANP (Buy Art Not People) to help found their organization. More info on their website: http://buyartnotpeople.org/

I had a great time creating for a good cause, surrounded by amazing artists and people with generous hearts.

This drawing tries to represent the inner pain and torment of an abused child, entangled in the sex trafficking hell. It was created spontaneously, during the event.

Creature concept

I have been hard at work, practicing what I have learned at the Creature Art Department workshop. I have just wrapped up a concept which I have started sculpting yesterday night. I will post shots of the sculpt when it is decent enough.

Here are a front and back view of the future sculpt:

Welcome to my Blog

Well after so many years of avoiding this whole blog thing, here I am, going at it. I decided to start a blog and use it as a journal to help me stay on track with the art challenges ahead.

2 weeks ago, I came back from an unbelievable workshop hosted by AnatomyTools.com with the great Carlos Huante supported by the amazing Andrew Carse.

The workshop was a surreal experience; it put a lot of things into perspective for me and clarified the path I must take from now on in order to grow as an artist.

On top of that, I got the chance to meet some very interesting and passionate artists with which I was proud to spend the whole week.

Thanks again, Andrew, Carlos and the crew at AnatomyTools.com for such a great experience!
